The exhibition of Ryozo Miki at Rian designmuseum in 2019 was a retrospective showcase of the ceramic artist’s work. The exhibition highlighted his over half a century of work, characterized by a blend of technical skill, humor, and spontaneity. Miki’s work reflects the traditional training he received as an apprentice in Kyoto, Japan, in the early 1960s, while also demonstrating his continuous exploration of more expressive forms.
The exhibition featured a generous selection of his works, including vessels, reliefs, and sculptures. A key element of his style, often seen in the showcased pieces, is a combination of impressed, carved, and painted decorations, all aimed at achieving a direct and unfiltered expression.
In conjunction with the exhibition, Rian designmuseum published the first book about Ryozo Miki, with texts by authors Petter Eklund and Love Jönsson.4 he book was a major part of the exhibition, providing a deeper look into his individual artistry and its historical and cultural context.
